4th Annual Ohiopyle/Stewart Volunteer Fire Company 8x4x4 Triathlon
8 miles biking/4 miles boating/4 miles running

Date of Race: September 12, 1998
Starting Time: 10:00 a.m.
Registration: Entry fee $15.00 (if registered before
September 6, 1998), $20.00 after September 6, or day of race registration.
Registration will be held at the Fire Hall from 8:00 am - 9:30 am. Entry
fee includes T-shirts for all those registered. Race will be limited to
150 participants. Refreshments will be provided following the race at
the Fire Hall.
Courses: The race will be a staggered start at the
entrance to Yough River Bike Trail (Ohiopyle to Confluence section).
All start times will be posted at the Fire Hall Registration Area.
1st Segment: Biking 8 miles to Middle Yough Launch Area (Ramcat) (on the
Yough River Trail)
2nd Segment: Boating 4 miles to Shipley Bottom on Middle Yough.
3rd Segment: Running 4 miles on Yough River Trail to Start/Finish Line.
This Triathlon is meant as a personal test to the physical abilities and
stamina and determination of participants. All participants finishing
the course will be awarded certificates of completion.
Awards: Top Male and Female Finisher.
Top Three Team Finishers: All team members must submit entries in one
envelope, each team member completely an entry form.
Female Awards (top finisher in each age group) 14 and under, 15-19, 20-29,
30-39, 40-49, 50 and up.
Male Awards (top finisher in each age group) 14 and under, 15-19, 20-29,
Special awards for the three top finishing firefighters.
All participants much finish in three hours or less to be eligible for awards.
Awards at the Fire Hall following race completion.
Acceptable Equipment:
Bicycles: Of any type, that are manually powered (helmets required)
Watercraft: Approved whitewater craft (Coast Guard approved personal
flotation device must be worn at all times while boating)
Legs & Feet: Of any length.
Obviously, the type of equipment used will impact the race results.
Please remember that although awards are being given to first place
finishers the main emphasis is a personal challenge and support for
the Ohiopyle/Stewart Vol. Fire Company who serve the Ohiopyle State
Park and surrounding area.
If needed, both bicycles and whitewater boats of a variety of descriptions
are available for rental at reduced rates for this event.
A portion of all rental fees collected will go to the Fire Company
Truck Building Fund.
Please make prior arrangements for equipment.

Transportation of equipment will be provided to and from the
Middle Yough launch site and Shipley Bottom, however, participants
are encouraged to make their own arrangements for transportation
of equipement to and from Ramcat, particularly if special handling
is required.
The Fire Company and the State Park reserve the right to cancel the
paddling portion of the Triathlon in case of high water.
The biking portion would be extended to 12 miles.

I hereby waive and release any and all rights for damage or suit I may have
against the race, its sponsor -- the Ohiopyle/Stewart Vol. Fire Co.,
or officials of the race or Commonwealth of PA. I also certify that I
am physically qualified and sufficiently trained to participate in this
event. I also release any photos that may involve myself.
